Where Li Bai Wrote His Most Celebrated Verse
In the early years of the Tianbao era, Emperor Xuanzong of Tang arrived at Chenxiang Pavilion in Xingqing Palace with Yang Guifei at his side, accompanied by musicians from the imperial Pear Garden troupe. The poet Li Bai was summoned to capture the moment. What he produced was the Qingping Melody, three verses that conjured the splendor of the Tang dynasty at its peak. The most famous line reads: clouds remind me of her garments, flowers remind me of her face, the spring breeze brushes the balustrade, heavy with dew. She leans against the railing of Chenxiang Pavilion to the north.

1000 Plus Pieces, One Extraordinary Pavilion
It is a pavilion, but the piece count reaches over 1000. The footprint has not grown dramatically. What has grown is the depth of detail. Every additional component adds richness to the build experience, making this one of the most rewarding wooden building blocks toys.

Tang Dynasty Colors, Faithfully Researched
During the coloring process, the design team found that the building’s palette naturally echoed the spirit of the Tang dynasty. Drawing reference from the famous Tang Sancai earthenware, with its signature yellow, green, and brown glazes, the colors were tested and refined across many rounds until the finished model felt less like a toy and more like the restoration of a historical artifact. The resulting palette is vivid, layered, and unmistakably Tang.

Details That Reward a Closer Look
The double eave roof structure is the centerpiece of the model. Ridge beasts line the roofline with crisp, well defined silhouettes. The gourd shaped gold lacquer finial at the crown is full and rounded, true to classical proportions. Dougong bracket sets follow the original structure faithfully, bold and commanding in their scale. The plaque is sharp and legible. Carved floral details are clear and richly colored. Double rows of rafters add structural depth and visual interest throughout.

Mortise and Tenon Construction Throughout
The entire model is built using interlocking mortise and tenon joinery, the same principle that allowed Tang dynasty craftsmen to raise monumental structures without a single nail. Each layer locks into the next, and the near exact 1 to 50 scale brings the pavilion to the tabletop with the kind of proportional accuracy that makes it look like a painting brought to life.
