FUXIAN LAKE, YUNNAN

With startlingly clear water and an unhurried shoreline, Fuxian Lake feels more like a calm seaside escape. The underwater relics only deepen the mystery.

DIANCHI LAKE, KUNMING

Vast yet surprisingly shallow, Dianchi is a highland lake whose shoreline has been pushed back by history, reclamation, development, and pollution. Today, sustained cleanup and wetland restoration are gradually helping the lake recover.

DONGFENGYUN ART TOWN

Red brick that looks like a cluster of wine bottles, skylights like a kaleidoscope, and lavender swaying beside Dutch style windmills. Dongfengyun Art Town in Mi’le folds art, hot springs, wellness retreats, and countryside fun into one resort district just under an hour from Kunming.

KEYI VILLAGE

A Yi ethnic village where the Axi presence is almost absolute. With an early–Qing origin, an intact traditional layout, forested karst mountains, and daily folk performances that are still part of everyday life, Keyi Village feels less like a staged attraction and more like a living archive.

LAOYUHE WETLAND PARK

With over 80 percent vegetation coverage, winter seagulls from Siberia, and tranquil wetland and lake scenery, Laoyuhe Wetland Park is one of the most relaxing Kunming attractions around Dianchi Lake Kunming.

DONGFENGYUN, MI'LE

A striking, red-brick, man-made wonder built on the former Dongfeng Farm (1958). State-farm memories, wine culture shaped by the old Yunnan–Vietnam Railway, and a surprisingly photogenic landscape. For a polished finish, pair the visit with a meal or stay at Dongfengyun Hotel Mi’Le – MGallery.

DIANCHI LAKE, KUNMING

Every year from early November to March, tens of thousands of “Kunming seagulls” sweep in from the frozen north and turn Dianchi Lake into a moving snowstorm of wings – best seen from spots like Haigeng Dam, with a sweet bun in hand.

SHILIN STONE FOREST, KUNMING

In the Shilin Stone Forest, what was once a Permian sea 270 million years ago rose with the earth and was patiently carved by water into caves, fissures, and towering spires, among which Ashima’s legend lingers, a love story turned into a single pillar watching through the ages.
