Imperial “Jin Ou Yong Gu” Cup Souvenir Magnet (Qing Dynasty New Year Ritual Metal Fridge Magnet)
$28.0
The Jin Ou Yong Gu Cup was an important ceremonial object used by Qing emperors during the Lunar New Year “Ming Chuang Kai Bi” ritual held at midnight on the first day of the first lunar month. In this rite, the emperor would personally light the jade candles on the imperial desk, drink Tusu wine from the cup, then take a “Wan Nian Zhi” brush to write New Year blessings in red and black ink, and finally consult the new year calendar in hopes of favorable weather, prosperity, and peace.
This fridge magnet draws on that tradition and conveys the cup’s imperial symbolism. “Jin Ou Yong Gu” expresses the wish that the nation remain enduring and secure, with stable borders and lasting good fortune for the year ahead.
Historical records note that the Qing court produced four Jin Ou Yong Gu cups in three batches: one gilt bronze and three pure gold, all richly engraved with auspicious motifs, inlaid with pearls and red/blue gemstones, and decorated with kingfisher-blue ornamentation (Tian-tsui), creating a magnificently regal look.
Details:
Faux gem beads for embellishment; royal-blue filled paint used to evoke the historic kingfisher-blue decoration; layered enamel restores the rim’s key fret pattern and the seal-script inscription “Jin Ou Yong Gu”.
