Fickle as a child’s fancy, Hangzhou’s springtime teases with intermittent sunbreaks amid temperamental skies. Yet last Sunday gifted us with unexpectedly delightful weather, defying dreary forecasts. Golden sunlight periodically pierced the cloud canopy, bathing Liangzhu Ancient City Ruins Park near Zhishan Station in luminous flares. There, evening primroses and sulfur cosmos unfurled in profusion, blanketing the landscape in gauzy pink and coral hues. Their fairylike floral tapestry alleviated a week’s tense anxieties.
Beyond the thatched pavilion ride’s next picturesque stop, more pastel blossoms beckoned. And wandering those flower-strewn fields, a darling toddler and elder brother appeared, frolicking happily amongst the blooms. From a polite distance, I stole a few photographs of the endearing pair as the flowers swayed gently around them. Any child graced with such cherubic charm, set amid those stunning floral vistas, makes for compositions of innocent delight. The blooms mirrored the young one’s bright joie de vivre, encapsulating spring’s childlike whimsical essence in Hangzhou.
