I can’t quite recall how many times I’ve visited Xixi. Perhaps, if I were the Emperor Zhao Gong of the Song Dynasty, witnessing the snow-like flying reeds and lush trees here, I might exclaim involuntarily, “Let Xixi leave its mark.” Little did he know, after all the fleeing and turmoil, he truly left his mark here.
In recent days, Hangzhou has been sweltering under the influence of the subtropical high-pressure system. However, the sky has been exceptionally clear with azure-blue skies and pristine white clouds, the air devoid of any impurities. The Sony A7M4 paired with the remarkable optical quality of the 24-70G master lens has delivered extraordinary photos-almost dreamlike, more real than reality itself. While I’ve photographed many places before, I won’t elaborate on them here; you can refer to my previous posts about the Xixi Wetland.
I’ve noticed that boat guides have been fervently recommending a visit to Shentankou lately. Understandably so, as it boasts the famous ancient camphor trees and serves as a filming location for the movie “If You Are the One.” However, besides the People’s Great Hall, there isn’t much to see there. I’ve been pushed to Shentankou several times myself. Later, I discovered that the first stop, Yanshui Fish Village, is also a fantastic place for photography. Named after the poetic beauty of smoke from willows, kitchens, and water described in Chen Wenshuo’s poem “Autumn Snow at the Fish Village,” it showcases local traditions such as silkworm rearing, wedding customs, and exhibits of rural dwellings. The entire village nestled amidst mountains and waters is incredibly picturesque.
Boat Routes:
A Line: Zhoujia Village – Yanshui Fish Village – Shentankou – Jiaolutian Village
B Line: Longshezui – Dongguan Lotus Pond (seasonal stop) – Hongyuan Remember, the last boat for all routes is at 5 p.m. Please ensure you board before that if you plan to take the boat.
In fact, there’s another route that doesn’t require a ticket. Just head right from the entrance of Zhoujia Village, following the main road outside. It leads into the heart of the Xixi Wetland. I recall walking through there at the cusp of spring and summer and being enchanted by the myriad of evening primroses lining the path—it was an awe-inspiring sight.
