Arrive in Mile, Feel Lighter: Dongfengyun Art Town

DONGFENGYUN ART TOWN

2-4 HOURS
2025/12/15

At Dongfengyun Scenic Area, also known as Dongfengyun Art Town or Honghe Dongfengyun Town, a heavily funded project by Yunnan Construction Investment Holding Group Co., Ltd has taken shape as a new model for “beautiful countryside” travel. The Dongfengyun leisure and resort district brings together cultural art, hot spring therapy, health recovery, vacation entertainment, and hands on rural fun.

Key projects include the Kaleidoscope Art Museum, the Town Museum, the Half a Cloud Art Lounge, a creative market, a Stamp Workshop, MGallery Dongfengyun Hotel Mi’le, an International Art Center, the Muxin Valley International Health and Wellness Resort, a winery, an artists’ manor, a rose manor, a lily manor, and a forest park. The resort area covers about 6,800 Mu, sits less than an hour from Kunming, and is right next to Mile Railway Station, giving it a clear location advantage.

The red brick Kaleidoscope Art Museum feels like a Mile style fairy tale. Its exterior is slightly abstract and postmodern, while the interior blends humanistic ideas with practical design. From a distance, the whole building resembles a gathering of friends and family after a joyful drink, leaving behind wine bottles of different sizes. It is a direct nod to the local wine culture that thrives in Honghe Dongfengyun. Look upward from inside and you will see triangular glass skylights scattered evenly across the dome, like the light panels of a kaleidoscope, capturing every meeting and goodbye between the building and its visitors.

Not far away, broad swaths of purple lavender stretch out beside richly Dutch style wooden windmills, instantly giving the place a European feel. In the warm light of sunset, the purple waves sway gently, carrying a faint fragrance that softens the fatigue of the journey.

The art center continues the experience through unconventional forms and an industrial use of contemporary materials. With five oversized “otherworldly stones,” it creates a “red stone formation” that holds a quiet conversation with the sculptural architectural clusters already rooted in the site. The freely cut lines and rough surface textures soften the sense of human fabrication, making the structures feel like stubborn rocks that have stood here for ages, weathered by time. Inside, sharply angled stairs span a height difference of five to six meters, like a mountain boardwalk, while light strips and narrow windows help pull the space outward.
