A Palette Scattered Across the Earth: Zhangye Danxia National Geopark

Named one of the National Geographic’s Top Ten Geological Wonders, the Zhangye Danxia Scenic Area is located in Nijiaying Village, Linze County, Zhangye City, Gansu Province. It is the only Danxia landform combined with a hilly landscape in China. The term “Danxia” refers to the brilliant red color of the rocks, similar to the hue of a vivid sunset. It is the result of erosion by wind and water over red sandstone and gravel layers.

Visitors can take a guided shuttle bus to explore the various scenic viewpoints. The bus stops follow this sequence:
1 (Colorful Cloud Sea Platform) → 5 (Colorful Brocade Platform) → 4 (Colorful Rainbow Platform) → 2 (Colorful Fairy Platform).

Here are the specific scenic spots at each station, each named after the unique shapes formed by the colorful stones:
1: Monks Worshiping Buddha, Colorful Flying Clouds, Monkey Watching the Sea, Danxia S-Curve Road, and Giant Seashell
5: Yuguo Tassel, Silk Road Sky
4: Hot Air Balloon Boarding Point, Little Potala Palace, Divine Turtle Asking Heaven, Red Wall Great Wall
2: Sleeping Beauty, Sunset Sail

The photos above beautifully capture the essence of this journey, showcasing the vibrant landscapes and unique rock formations. It was worth every moment, as most of the key sights were explored. Recently, a night tour has been launched. If visitors don’t have enough time during the day, they can choose to visit at night. However, it is still recommended to enjoy the sunset views, as they are truly breathtaking.

Dining Options: At station 4, there are several local snacks available, including yogurt, grilled meats, and a variety of noodles. Prices may be slightly higher since it’s a tourist area, but they are still reasonably acceptable. If you’re feeling hungry, it’s worth grabbing a bite.

For Drone Enthusiasts: Please be aware that security personnel at the scenic area will quickly approach if they see your drone. The area explicitly prohibits the use of aerial vehicles, so be mindful of the regulations.
